Okay, so, I’m a liberal. Well, maybe just a patriot. Pick a label, but…

I’m an on-again off-again fan of MoveOn.org. Kneejerk reactions Call For Change to issues and mailings full of exclamation points and angry rhetoric don’t thrill me. This isn’t MoveOn’s fault. They are full of concerned people trying to organize a complacent electorate. The language they use is the language of the times we are in. Surrounded by messages vying for our attention, this rhetoric is the ’standard’ method of trying to cut through the noise and get our attention. Worse than them are the writer’s who argue on either side of any California Ballot initiative listed in the Official Voter Information Guide. You see things like: “BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN NEW TAXPAYER COSTS” or “TAKING OUR HOMES AND SMALL BUSINESSES”. I guess the idea is that IF I TELL YOU SOMETHING IN CAPITAL LETTERS IT MUST BE TRUE.

Be that as it may, and as much as I am unmoved by both Republicans and Democrats these days, I do think it’s a very, very good idea to check the power of any Administration by having a Congress controlled by the other party. You see where I’m going with this. And I don’t even have to say it all in caps. So, jaded as I am, I’m going to support Democrats wherever possible. This is difficult here in Northern California (yah, I live here) as my reps are Dems anyway. So, given the fact that the current Republican Administration is way out of touch with most of us Republicans (and Democrats, and Greens, and Libertarians, and sane human beings…). Hmm, does that mean I’m a sane Republican? Actually, I’m a Conservative Pagan. No, wait, I’m an Aging Bohemian! Anywho, check out MoveOn’s website and see if there’s anything you can do to help end the ‘War On Terra’.
